Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has reported that its special operation in the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast is ongoing, with additional forces from special units countering attempts by the Russians to expand their fire advantage over logistics routes in the area of responsibility.

Combat units of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR) are conducting a series of successful operations in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, to expand fire control over Russian logistics, the HUR reports.

Here is how things stand on Wednesday, November 5: Russian and Ukrainian troops have fought battles in the ruins of Pokrovsk, a transport and logistics hub in eastern Ukraine, with Ukraine’s military reporting fierce fighting under way in a part of the city that was key for Kyiv’s front-line logistics.

Volodymyr Zelensky said he met Ukrainian soldiers near the town of Pokrovsk in Donetsk, where one of the fiercest front-line battles between Russia and Ukraine is underway.

DeepState has reported that Russian forces are continuing to infiltrate Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, gradually increasing their infantry presence and expanding sabotage and reconnaissance activities within the city.

Western analysts say the attacks on energy infrastructure so far have had a serious — but not crippling — effect. Ukrainian drones have repeatedly hit 16 major Russian refineries, representing about 38% of the country’s nominal refining capacity, according to a recent review by the Carnegie Endowment, a U.S.-based think tank.

According to the latest estimates, the Russian forces have sustained approximately 1,140,000 casualties, including killed and wounded troops, since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022. Thus far in 2025, the Russian forces have taken approximately 353,000 casualties.
