Long before Cheesman Park became a popular gathering place, it was the home of Denver's first cemetery...Mt. Prospect Cemetery. Back in 1859, Denver's founder, General William Larimer, set aside 320-acres for a cemetery. Originally designed to cater to the wealthy and affluent, a lack of water for making the grounds "pretty", led to the cemetery primarily being used to bury the poor, criminals, and small pox victims. In 1890, Senator Henry M. Teller, convinced the U.S. Congress to allow the ceme
